Salome Kristensen will take up her position as Clinical Professor on 1 January 2026 at the Clinical Institute, Department of Rheumatology (Joint, Spine and Connective Tissue Diseases), Aalborg University Hospital.
Salome Kristensen obtained her medical degree (MD) from Aarhus University in 2005, became a specialist in 2015, and earned her PhD in clinical research in 2017 with a focus on inflammatory rheumatic diseases and their comorbidities. She joins the professorship from a position as Clinical Associate Professor.
Her research combines clinical studies, epidemiological methods, and analyses of national health registries to examine both the effectiveness and safety of treatments as well as the development of comorbidities in patients with inflammatory joint and connective tissue diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, vasculitis, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
In both her research and clinical practice, she has a strong focus on improving patient treatment and quality of life, with the ambition of contributing to more individualized medicine. She looks forward to further developing close collaboration with colleagues across organizations and to continuing her contribution to the development of medical education at Aalborg University.
In addition to her university-based research, Salome Kristensen is active in national research and advisory fora. She is a member of the Danish Rheumatism Association’s research council and Chair of the professional council for the rheumatology biobank under the Danish National Biobank and Genome Bank. Through this work, she contributes to the development of new knowledge, improved treatment, and a more sustainable use of healthcare resources in Denmark.
